Fox Associates, LLC announces the opening of CURTAIN CALL LOUNGE at the Fabulous Fox Theatre

ST. LOUIS, MO, December 18, 2015–  Fox Associates, LLC is proud to announce the opening of Curtain Call Lounge adjacent to the south side of the Fox Theatre on Grand Blvd.   Curtain Call Lounge will open at 5 p.m. and remain open until two hours after all evening performances at the Fox.  On matinee days, doors will open following the matinee and remain open until two hours after the evening performance.

Curtain Call Lounge will be a fabulous extension of the Fox and our guest experience,” said Thom Johnson, Vice President of Food and Beverage operations at the theatre.

“It will be St. Louis’s first Champagne bar with an extensive selection of the finest Champagnes and wines by the glass, local craft beers on tap and a cocktail menu that blends the freshly made flavors of classic cocktails.  To enhance our extensive drink menu we will also offer seasonal culinary small plates and shared menu items plus a selection of desserts.”

The décor of Curtain Call Lounge is a modern take on the Eastern architecture that defines the Fabulous Fox.  Byzantine arches, and tiles, massive gold palm trees and a draped ceiling are some of the unique features. There is also a stage where live entertainment will be presented from time to time. This weekend, December 18 and 19, the Unit Jazz Trio will play from 10 p.m. to midnight following the Fox performances of WICKED.  Curtain Call Lounge can be used for private parties in combination with show tickets or for receptions, meetings and social gatherings on non-show days.

Curtain Call Lounge and the Fabulous Fox are owned and operated by Fox Associates, LLC partners Mary Strauss, Lisa Baudendistel-Suntrup and Julie Baudendistel-Noonan. The project was designed by award-winning SPACE Architects and supervised by owner Tom Niemeier.  “SPACE did the design for the renovation of the Humboldt Building in 2006 and we knew Tom and his team would be perfect for this project” said Mary Strauss. “They brought our initial vision to life more beautifully than we could ever have imagined” added Julie Baudendistel-Noonan.  “There is absolutely nothing that we would change.”

“We are so pleased to bring another food and beverage option to Grand Center,” said Lisa Baudendistel-Suntrup.  “The district has blossomed in the last few years and we are excited to continue the investment in our own neighborhood.”

Curtain Call Lounge does not take reservations.  For our menus and for the full calendar of events coming to the Fox Theatre, visit FabulousFox.com.   To inquire about rental opportunities, call 314-657-2275

‘Wicked’ comes to St. Louis Fabulous Fox Theatre, a Triumphant Return

An admission is in order…this was my first time to see ‘Wicked’, the tremendous musical story of ‘Oz before Dorothy’, now playing at The Fabulous Fox Theatre in St. Louis through January 3, 2016.

Another admission—I am thrilled that I was able to see this outstanding production which has been the phenonomen that continues to draw returnees, and has become a ‘must see’ for those who have not yet seen it.

The show offers major production spectacles that is befitting the always-wonderful setting of The Fabulous Fox, but even more importantly, provide the backdrop to showcase the talents of the lead performers, Elphaba, who will in ‘Oz’ become the ‘Wicked Witch’ , played to perfection by , Mary Kate Morrissey and Glinda, played by Amanda Jane Cooper, who, although Glinda will be ‘The Good Witch’ in ‘Oz’ is really secondary in the story of ‘Wicked’.

The show, after all, is not entitled ‘Goodness’, and it is what it is—the almost semi-tragic story of the Green-Skinned Elphaba and how she was to become the ‘evil’ witch.

Actually, throughout, she is much more likeable than Glinda, who must transcend from a somewhat cute, charming albeit slightly ditzy youthful Blonde that had she been in the real world might be considered a candidate to have become a ‘Trophy Wife.’  And, while Elphaba has a logical progression into her character, Glinda becomes a ‘mature’ and judgmental counter to Elphaba.

I watched the audience reaction with interest during the show.  At intermission, I was talking to a women and her daughter who said they had travelled from Central Illinois—a more than three-hour drive—to see the show for the first time, and they were delighted that they did.  It was a Christmas present from the Mother, and bother were dressed in green blouses.

While neither had colored their skin green, they did have green eye-liner, an indication of the overwhelming attraction of ‘Wicked’—the affection for the story of a magical land, and the appeal of Elphaba that makes this a ‘must see’ for the Holiday Season.  And, I am glad that I can now join the legion of fans for this show, which never will lose its allure.

WICKED makes awaited return to The Fabulous Fox Theatre December 9, 2015 - January 3, 2016

Back by “popular” demand. Variety calls WICKED "a cultural phenomenon,” and it continues to break box office records across North America. Winner of over 100 international awards, including a Grammy® and three Tony Awards®, WICKED is “Broadway’s biggest blockbuster” (The New York Times).

Long before that girl from Kansas arrives in Munchkinland, two girls meet in the land of Oz. One - born with emerald green skin - is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. How these two grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good makes for "the most complete - and completely satisfying - musical in a long time" (USA Today).
